Sidenote: Am beginning to wonder if Sandlers makes these films just so he could provide employment to his best buddies like Buscemi, Schneider and those 2 other guys whore ALWAYS on his films with some minor role. Not something that you really, really, REALLY gotta watch, but if nothing else better is on then its a fairly good bet. Not a great film, of course, but enough to be somewhat entertaining. Everything is just so clichéd and simple. A company being sold off, endangering the lives of 50,000 employees (a pretty convenient excuse for a conflict if I ever saw one)? Simple, Sandler walks into the companys stockholder meeting, gives one of his down-to-earth pep talks, and suddenly most of the stockholders goes over to his side. Sandlers down-to-earth approach just seemingly works like magic when solving difficult situations each and everytime. I also dont remember her to be quite as gorgeous in her previous films as she is now, too bad that the damn shoplifting incident just seems to keep popping in my head every now and then when watching her in this film.Īs for things I didnt like about the film, well, most of this films content just seems to be so simple: Country folks are supposed to be just so good and nice. Let's go We see a very brief shot of a man and woman dancing seductively together. I used to find her to be a bit irritating because of her seemingly pa-cute mannerisms when talking when she was younger, but that was obviously gone now (I hope, anyway). Deeds Goes To Town': Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) lives in Mandrake Falls, NH, and owns and operates a pizza restaurant, while dreaming that Hallmark Cards will one day buy one of his greeting cards. Not a lot, but enough to get noticed and remembered.Īnother would be that Winona Ryder just pulls off a surprisingly excellent performance here as Sandlers love interest. It does have a couple of funny moments here and there. Youre just supposed to watch it, and be entertained, and at that level, it is somehow able to deliver well. One, Sandlers movies just somehow are able to very effectively convey the fact that it just doesnt take itself very seriously. I have to admit, the movie sort of surprisingly worked for me, due to a couple of factors. Of course, thats not necessarily a bad thing per se.
